Bingkai KaryaDavid Byrne makes a powerful comeback with his highly anticipated album “Who Is the Sky?”, released under Matador Records. This marks Byrne’s first studio album since American Utopia (2018), a critically acclaimed project that evolved into a Broadway sensation and an HBO film.

Produced by Grammy Award winner Kid Harpoon (known for his work with Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus), the album features 12 tracks arranged by members of New York’s chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. The record also showcases an impressive lineup of special guests, including Hayley Williams of Paramore, St. Vincent, and Tom Skinner of The Smile.

Earlier this week, Byrne appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the album and surprised fans with a live mini performance at Rough Trade Underground NYC at 30 Rockefeller. Together with his band, Byrne delivered “What Is The Reason For It?” from the new album, followed by “Everybody Laughs” and the Talking Heads classic “Houses in Motion.”

Byrne also released the official video for “What Is The Reason For It?”, featuring Hayley Williams. Directed in collaboration with artist Dustin Yellin, the video uses advanced AI technology to animate more than 20 of Byrne’s original artworks blending visual art and innovation in a truly immersive experience.

The album rollout began with its lead single “Everybody Laughs,” directed by multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia Colombo. The video captures the core essence of “Who Is the Sky?”, a reflection on human connection and the pursuit of unity amid global chaos.

In support of the album, Byrne will embark on an extensive world tour produced by Live Nation, starting September 14 in Providence, R.I., with stops including Radio City Music Hall (New York City), Dolby Theatre (Los Angeles), and Auditorium Theatre (Chicago), among others. “In my age now, there’s a kind of ‘I don’t care what people think’ attitude that starts to emerge,” Byrne shares, reflecting on the spirit behind Who Is the Sky?. “I can step out of my comfort zone knowing that I understand who I am and what I’m doing. Every new set, every song it’s a new adventure. Not all collaborations work, but when they do, it’s because we share a clear vision. Together, we find ourselves stepping into the unknown.”
