That’s exactly the feeling Nabila Taqiyyah captures in her latest single, “Cegil.” The single is released under Universal Music Indonesia.
Speaking of “cegil”, for those who might not know the term is an acronym for “Cewek Gila” (literally, “crazy girl”), used to describe someone who is obsessively chasing love or attention. The term has become widely popular and gone viral on social media, especially TikTok. But don’t get it wrong, “cegil” doesn’t carry a negative connotation, guys. It’s more commonly used to portray girls whose behavior becomes unpredictable and a little over-the-top when they’re in love.
In this single, Nabila Taqiyyah explores and translates the term from a positive perspective, expressing the hope that the person she’s chasing will love her back.
“Long story short, this girl only wants to be with this guy because she’s that deeply in love. She’s already head over heels, so she really hopes he can be with her forever. Sometimes when you’re in love, you can’t deny that you start thinking, no matter what, I have to end up with him,” said Nabila Taqiyyah as she shared the story behind “Cegil.”
Uniquely, Nabila Taqiyyah wrote the lyrics herself, collaborating with S/EEK as the producer.
“The lyrics are light and very simple, telling a love story that many people can relate to especially girls,” she explained. Musically, “Cegil” carries a bright, cheerful pop sound with groovy beats throughout the arrangement. The music and lyrics blend seamlessly, creating a melody that’s extremely easy and pleasant to listen to.
Meanwhile, the music video is designed to feel as comfortable as possible, particularly through its visual tone. Set in a home courtyard with lush, refreshing scenery, the visuals blend beautifully with the flow of the music. Nabila Taqiyyah doesn’t appear alone in the “Cegil” music video she’s joined by rising actor Adzando Davema. The music video was produced by YGP Films, managed by IONZ Creative, and directed by Yopi Gunawan and Giri Maulana.
“I hope this song can represent the feelings and hopes of those who are experiencing the same thing in a romantic relationship,” Nabila Taqiyyah shared.
