Stranded Deep, a free monthly PS Plus game from a few years ago, has seen a massive increase in player count, as its user base looks to have skyrocketed. PS Plus users receive free games every month, as well as access to special in-game packs and additional savings during certain sale events.
In July 2023, Sony gave PS Plus subscribers the opportunity to play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Alan Wake Remastered, and Endling: Extinction is Forever for free. Customers receive access to the free monthly games for as long as they are a PS Plus subscriber, allowing them to play titles they have added to their accounts until they discontinue their membership. Stranded Deep was made available to PlayStation Plus users as a free monthly game in May 2021, and it has since seen a significant surge in player count for a very specific purpose.
According to TrueTrophies, Stranded Deep’s player count has surged as of July 17, with 77% more players playing the game in the last two weeks. As a result of this rise, Stranded Deep now ranks 44th among titles with the most active players on PS5 and PS4. TrueTrophies also says that during this time period, more gamers played Stranded Deep than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, The Last of Us Part 1, and the PS5 pack-in title Astro’s Playroom. It should be mentioned that this statistics is based on over 3.3 million active PSN accounts, but it’s still an outstanding feat.

According to the claim, there is a flaw in Stranded Deep that allows users to unlock the platinum award for free. The process is rather straightforward, since gamers only need to play the game in co-op with someone who already has the platinum trophy. Stranded Deep was not near the top 200 most played games on PS5 and PS4, therefore it appears that a large number of fans downloaded it to obtain a free platinum trophy.
Stranded Deep is also available to PS Plus Extra and Premium customers, in addition to anyone who added the game to their accounts in May 2021. So, anyone with a higher tier of PS Plus could have downloaded the game and followed the same steps, gaining a brand-new platinum trophy for nothing.
