Welcoming the celebration of Indonesian independence, various tourist destinations, especially historical tourism, will receive a lot of attention, one of which is the Proclamation Park. This park is located at Jalan Proklamasi Number 10, Menteng, Central Jakarta, is the former residence of the proclaimer Ir. Sukarno.
On August 16, 1945, Bung Karno chose his yard to hold the Proclamation ceremony to prevent possible attacks from Japan. Whereas, previously, the young people wanted the Indonesian Proclamation Ceremony to be held at Ikada Field.
The young people had prepared a war strategy if Japan attacked during the reading of the Proclamation text. However, after discussions with both young and old, the ceremony for the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence was finally held in Bung Karno’s yard.
The text of the Proclamation was previously signed at 03.00 WIB at the residence of Admiral Maeda, which is now known as the Museum of Formulation of Proclamation Manuscripts.
Bung Karno’s house has long been razed to the ground on his own orders. Several years after the proclamation, Bung Karno’s residence was built with several important monuments, as well as gardens.
Within the park area, there are three important objects namely the One Year Commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia, the Lightning Monument, and the Monument to the Proclamation of Soekarno-Hatta.
The One Year Independence Monument of Indonesia is the first monument to be erected. The construction of this monument was initiated by the Djakarta Women’s Association.
