Bingkai Karya-Phum Viphurit, a singer-songwriter from Bangkok, has released his second single “Balter Baby” from his upcoming EP “PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1,” following his earlier track “The Other Side.” Released on October 9, 2024, this new song is instrumental-only and focuses on dance music, showcasing a different side of Phum’s musical abilities.

“Balter Baby” continues the story from the first single, following Paul Vibhavadi, a lovable sloth, who is now adored by a tribe he met on his journey to find the magical Himmapan forest. Phum explains that this part of the story shows Paul lost in a trance, feeling the energy of the dance the tribe performs for him.

Dive Deeper into Paul’s World

Interestingly, Phum decided to tell this part of Paul’s story through music without any lyrics. He wanted to create a piece that people could dance to, while challenging himself to hold their attention without words. Phum says he listens to a lot of instrumental music and found it exciting to create something that would move people through sound alone.

He drew inspiration for “Balter Baby” from artists like the dance group Modjo, as well as Motown, funk, and disco music from the 70s. Phum says the visual aspect of Paul’s story helped shape the sound of the song, imagining it as the perfect soundtrack for this chapter in the character’s journey.

Choosing “Balter Baby” as a single helps continue the theme and style of the EP. Phum explains that it fits perfectly before he changes things up in the rest of the project. He wanted to explore themes of movement and trance across the EP. The animated video ends with Paul floating away in a glowing orb, leaving fans to interpret the meaning or find out more when “I know it’s quite a conceptual piece of work, and there’ll be many different interpretations of it,” says Phum. “But I’m so excited to show my creativity and make people feel something again with this next piece of work.”
