A Joyful Anthem Like A Medicine, Shawn Mendes Releases The New Album “Heart of Gold”

Bingkai KaryaShawn Mendes, the multi-platinum, GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter, has released his highly anticipated new self-titled album, Shawn. USA Today has already lauded the album as a “triumph” and a “highlight of the 26-year-old’s career.” Shawn had previously released tunes such as “Heart of Gold,” “Nobody Knows,” “Why Why Why,” and “Isn’t That Enough” in advance of the album.

Billboard described “Heart of Gold” as “as touching as it is personal,” while The New York Times asserted that “Why Why Why” “represents a new level of candor and pathos.” Shawn most recently performed his single, “Heart of Gold,” at the MTV EMAs.

Shawn has drawn heavily from Mendes’ travels and experiences in the past few years, following the cancellation of his 2022 tour. It is his most musically intimate and lyrically honest work to date, leading listeners through a profound self-dialogue with each song. The production was composed and recorded in a multitude of locations over the course of two years, including Nosara, Costa Rica; Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck, NY; Bear Creek Studio in Washington State; Darkhorse Recordings in Nashville; and Electric Lady in New York City.

About The Album

Mendes stated, “This album is like medicine to me.” “It helped me reconnect with myself by helping me to process my feelings, get clarity, and feel stronger. I hope that each song encapsulates a moment from that journey and conveys a sense of peace and joy to all who listen.”

Mendes wrote and co-produced the album with Scott Harris, Mike Sabath (Raye’s “My 21st Century Blues”), Nate Mercereau (Andre 3000 “New Blue Sun”), and Eddie Benjamin. Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska (Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers) contributed additional songs. Additionally, Chris Thile of the Punch Brothers contributes instrumentation to the album.

Shawn performed the album in its entirety at Woodstock in August, followed by London, Nashville, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Seattle, and a special show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last month, during a limited run of intimate shows in celebration of the new album. Shawn will conclude his tour in his birthplace of Toronto later this month.

Fans worldwide attended a one-night-only cinema screening of Shawn Mendes: For Friends and Family Only (A Live Concert Film) in anticipation of the album’s release tonight. The film, which was captured at the historic Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY, showcased Mendes’ emotional rendition of the album in its entirety for the first time.
