When Opposites Attract and Friends Forgive: A Fresh Sound of Friendship — “FRENEMY” by Isyana Sarasvati and VIDI

Bingkai Karya – After opening a new chapter in her career with the “EKLEKTIKO” era and releasing an emotionally charged collaborative single with Hindia titled “Hari Ini”, Isyana Sarasvati returns with a fresh new color. Still within the same chapter, “Lunora”, Isyana teams up with her longtime friend VIDI (the stage name of Vidi Aldiano) in a surprise-filled collaborative piece titled “FRENEMY” under her own label, REDROSE Records.

In contrast to the reflective and melancholic tone of her previous release, “FRENEMY” presents a more cheerful and upbeat mood. The song captures the dynamic of friendships often marked by arguments, but ones that ultimately strengthen and make the bond irreplaceable. “‘FRENEMY’ is a playful song about a love-hate relationship—full of drama, yet always ending in forgiveness. Like Tom & Jerry, they always make up in the end, and that’s the true strength of their friendship,” shared Isyana about the track.

“FRENEMY” was written by both Isyana Sarasvati and VIDI, with support from Nashville based composer Josh Gabbard, who also served as the producer. Thanks to the natural chemistry between Isyana and VIDI—nurtured over years behind the scenes—the song bursts with spontaneity, humor, and honesty, resulting in a refreshing musical experience.

As part of the Lunora chapter, “FRENEMY” marks Isyana Sarasvati’s second release in May, her birth month, as a celebration of creativity and the freedom of expression conveyed

through the “EKLEKTIKO” album. In this chapter, Isyana collaborates with three male musicians across generations: Hindia, Afgan, and of course, VIDI.

“This journey begins with ‘Lunora’, where I invite three Indonesian male musicians to explore with me—celebrating the beauty of collaboration through diversity. Differences are not obstacles; in fact, that’s where the magic lies, because life is beautiful in its diversity,” said Isyana.

The album “EKLEKTIKO” will be divided into four main chapters—Lunora, Mamiu, Cecilia, and Abadhi—each representing various personas, life phases, and musical directions that have shaped Isyana’s identity to this day.

“FRENEMY” is now available to stream on all major digital streaming platforms starting May 16. The release is accompanied by a music video, which will also premiere on the same day on Isyana Sarasvati’s official YouTube channel.

The music video was produced by Niamo Studio and directed by Gilbert March. In the making of this video, Isyana invited her fanbase, Isyanation, along with VIDI’s fan community, Vidies, to participate as cameo appearances.
