Bingkai Karya – Not wanting to keep her fans waiting too long, Meiska is back with a brand new single, following the release of “Datang Tepat Waktu” on June 20. Written by Meiska herself, “Berat Rasanya” was penned in April, while the recording took place in June, just a week or two after finishing “Datang Tepat Waktu.” After going through mixing and mastering, the single is now set for release this September. For Meiska, the whole process felt just right, not rushed but not dragging on either, resulting in a song that came out exactly the way she wanted.
True to its title, the Denpasar born soloist shares that “Berat Rasanya” tells the story of a relationship that has to end because of a change in her partner’s attitude. “It’s about someone realizing their partner is no longer interested. In the end, they choose to part ways because they feel the relationship isn’t mature enough and can’t move forward into something more serious. If it can’t be saved, it’s better to separate for the good of both.
The inspiration came when I was feeling empty, alone, reflecting on the idea of parting on good terms. Situations like this aren’t uncommon around me and maybe I’ve even gone through it myself.”
When Sony Music Indonesia first heard the song, they immediately agreed to make it Meiska’s next single even though the lyrics weren’t fully written yet. That became a challenge for Meiska, since the short break in between caused her to lose some ideas and struggle with tying the whole theme together. But with the help of her label’s team, she managed to finish writing the song and move on to recording.
What Meiska loves most about this single is how it still carries the heartbreak theme but highlights a band like arrangement. “You could say “Berat Rasanya” feels a little different from my other heartbreak songs that are more mellow, because this one carries a band vibe. I imagine putting it in an off-air setlist would bring a new kind of melancholy, sad but light and it’s the kind of song the audience can easily sing along to. If I had to compare, maybe it’s like Taylor Swift’s more band-driven songs. For local references, I’d say it sounds a bit like Geisha,” she explained.
Meiska hopes that “Berat Rasanya” will ease her listeners’ longing for her signature heartbreak songs, be there to accompany them in moments of sadness, and eventually become a crowd favorite to sing together during her live shows. But is she worried about being labeled as an artist who only sings about heartbreak? “Not at all. I feel that’s my strength delivering heartbreak songs and getting the message across to the people who listen. If people say my songs are always about heartbreak, that just means it’s my DNA. That’s where you’ll find the real ‘Meiska,’” she concluded.
Meiska’s latest single, “Berat Rasanya,” will be available on digital music platforms starting September 26, 2025.
