About the Album ‘Secret Love’
‘Secret Love’ marks Dry Cleaning’s most profound expression of their creative bond Florence Shaw (vocals), Tom Dowse (guitar), Nick Buxton (drums), and Lewis Maynard (bass). The album situates the South London quartet at the forefront of modern rock’s avant-garde, channeling early ’80s U.S. punk paranoia, stoner rock grit, and playful no-wave textures, while Florence’s spoken-word delivery evokes icons like Laurie Anderson and Sue Tompkins.
Written collaboratively in their Peckham rehearsal space, Secret Love was shaped through sessions at Jeff Tweedy’s The Loft in Chicago and with Gilla Band’s Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin. The project culminated with Cate Le Bon at Black Box Studio in the Loire Valley, chosen for her positivity and openness after the band interviewed several potential producers.
‘Secret Love’ will be released on January 9, 2026, available digitally and in multiple physical formats: CD, cassette, black vinyl, limited-edition Apricot vinyl (4AD Store & indie retail), and Pearl/Arctic vinyl (Rough Trade exclusive). A limited number of signed photo prints will also be available through the 4AD Store and selected indie retailers.
