Bingkai Karya – After successfully releasing the remake of his popular single “Semusim” with Nadhif Basalamah on November 21, 2025, Tohpati now returns with another remake single. This time, he revisits “Cinta Kita,” a song originally performed by Reza Artamevia that became a major hit in 2002. Once again collaborating with a young singer, Tohpati chose Fabio Asher to deliver the vocals for this latest version of “Cinta Kita.”
Tohpati shared the strong reason behind his decision to re-release the song after more than two decades. “This song was very popular back in 2002. With such a long gap from 2002 to 2026, I was curious to hear what it would sound like when sung by a new singer. That’s when I thought of inviting Fabio Asher to collaborate. Besides the fact that we’ve worked together before, he’s also a graduate of various music talent competitions. So I already knew what his vocals were like, and there was no doubt about his quality,” said Tohpati.
For Fabio Asher, this collaboration is a valuable opportunity in his career, making it an offer he did not hesitate to accept. “Perry and Iman from WeCord initially contacted me and told me that Tohpati was working on remakes of his hit songs and was interested in collaborating. Without thinking twice, of course I immediately said yes to this golden opportunity to work with one of Indonesia’s music maestros,” he explained. Fabio also tried to bring a personal vocal approach without losing the song’s identity. “In this remake version, I try to deliver it with a vocal style that’s perhaps a bit more ballad compared to how Reza Artamevia performed it. With Tohpati’s more modern production touch, the song will still feel familiar, but it offers a fresher listening experience.”
From an arrangement standpoint, Tohpati did not make drastic changes to the song’s structure, but enhanced it with a more grand and modern production. “I didn’t want to change the beat too much because there was really no need to. But now the arrangement feels more grand, and the orchestration is supported by the Budapest Orchestra, making it more powerful. The mood is also clearly different, since the original vocalist was female and now it’s a male vocalist. From what I’ve heard, Fabio delivers it very well and blends seamlessly with the music. You could say this is very much Indonesian pop,” he said.
Although the song still falls within the genre he usually explores, Fabio felt a unique challenge while working on it. “I felt challenged to keep the soul of the original version of “Cinta Kita” because that’s what made people love it. This song already holds a special place in many people’s hearts, so I had to be very careful to make sure its essence wasn’t lost when I sang it.”
Meanwhile, for Tohpati, the challenge actually emerged during discussions with Fabio, especially regarding the arrangement direction. “There was a small debate because Fabio suggested making the song more upbeat. But after we tried it, I still felt that the ballad approach suited it better. In the end, the arrangement returned to a ballad. Aside from that, the overall process of working on this single went smoothly,” he revealed.
After releasing two singles, “Semusim” and “Cinta Kita,” does this signal that his upcoming album will lean toward the ballad genre? According to Tohpati, ballads will not be the only genre featured on his next album. “I don’t want my album to be filled entirely with mellow songs. There has to be variety so listeners don’t get bored. There will also be songs with faster beats, one of them being “Panah Asmara”, which was previously sung by Chrisye and later by Afgan,” he added.
Returning to the new single, both Tohpati and Fabio hope that this remake version of “Cinta Kita” can serve as a bridge between generations. “Our hope is that this remake can become a bridge across generations. We want long time listeners to still feel the same nostalgia and emotions, while new listeners can discover and fall in love with the song. Most importantly, we hope this song can live again and gain new meaning for anyone who listens to it,” Fabio concluded.
The latest single by Tohpati and Fabio Asher, “Cinta Kita,” will be available on all digital platforms starting January 9, 2026.
