Bingkai Karya – A new chapter takes shape as Mitski announces her eighth studio album, ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me,’ set for release on February 27 via Dead Oceans. Alongside the announcement, she unveils the album’s lead single and official music video, “Where’s My Phone?”
Supported by a live band and orchestral arrangements, ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ finds Mitski immersed in richly layered storytelling centered on a solitary woman living inside a cluttered home. Beyond its walls, she is perceived as an outsider, within them, she is free. The album expands Mitski’s narrative universe with emotional depth and sonic intensity, balancing vulnerability with confrontation.
A noisy and unruly rock track, “Where’s My Phone?” offers a snapshot of the album’s dynamic range and restless energy. Its looping, disoriented refrain “Where did it go // Where’s my phone // Where’s my phone // Where did I leave // Where’d I go // Where’d I go” captures the anxious momentum running throughout the record. New Yorker cartoonist Emily Flake has illustrated her interpretation of the song, further extending its visual and emotional language.
The release of “Where’s My Phone?” arrives alongside a wild and emotionally charged music video directed by Noel Paul. Inspired by Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle and rendered through a playful yet primitive filmmaking style, the video portrays Mitski as a paranoid woman determined to protect her sister inside a gothic home while facing an increasingly absurd procession of human obstacles. Threatening and friendly intruders alike arrive in waves, creating a total collapse of order and control.
Mitski wrote all the songs and performed all vocals on ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me.’ The album was produced and co produced by Patrick Hyland, with mastering by Bob Weston. Continuing the musical lineage established on her 2023 album ‘The Land Is Inhospitable’ and ‘So Are We,’ the project features live instrumentation from The Land touring band alongside ensemble arrangements. Orchestral sections were recorded at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, and produced by Michael Harris.
‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ is now available for pre order and pre save.
