Bingkai KaryaMitski releases her eighth studio album, ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’, today via Dead Oceans, alongside the music video for the album’s featured track, “If I Leave.” Following “I’ll Change For You,” a despairing bossa nova track (The Needle Drop), Mitski now presents a story of conflict and doubt in “If I Leave.” With an “unmatched ability to sound elegant and distressed at once” (Stereogum), she sings: “If I leave // Somebody else will find you // But nobody else could see me // Quite as clearly as you.”

The “If I Leave” video, directed by Jared Hogan, is not only striking, unsettling, and dark, but also humorous. Set in a house filled with threats and stories from the past, each room holds traces of life and strange moments that once occurred within it. Mitski and her band members perform in these haunted spaces with calm and indifference, their straightforward presence grounding the viewer even as tension fills the rooms around them. The house is the true character here; Mitski and her music serve as the thread connecting its eras and terrors.

Mitski wrote all the songs and performs all the vocals on ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’. The album was produced by Patrick Hyland and mastered by Bob Weston. It continues the musical direction established on her 2023 album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, featuring live instrumentation from The Land touring band along with ensemble arrangements. The orchestra was recorded at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, and engineered by Michael Harris.

Mitski will bring ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ to select cities worldwide with residencies in major cities, including six nights at The Shed in New York City, accompanied by a separate Tansy House installation, five nights at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, and four nights at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney. Additional stops include Mexico City, Istanbul, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, London, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. Tickets are available now, with many dates already sold out.

In addition to Mitski’s performances, The Shed will host The Tansy House Exhibition beginning Friday, February 27 through the end of the performance run. The Tansy House Exhibition offers fans the opportunity to explore the rich visual world of ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’ through a fabric-encased house revealed one room at a time. Fans will be invited to step into an environment where vivid scenes and subtle stories unfold. From touches of Victorian charm to kitsch chaos hidden in its corners, each space reflects the album’s spiritual home, The Tansy House. More information about the exhibition is available online.
