Bingkai Karya — GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo has released a new remix of her hit single “expectations,” featuring Chappell Roan, through Interscope Records. The collaboration introduces a fresh interpretation of the original track, bringing together two distinctive voices in contemporary pop music. The release also marks Roan’s first-ever featured appearance, adding a new dimension to Rodrigo’s already successful song.
Originally featured on Rodrigo’s third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, “expectations” now returns with a playful new identity. Produced by their mutual collaborator Dan Nigro, the remix builds on the original song while introducing Roan into the track. The collaboration brings together Rodrigo’s established pop presence and Roan’s distinctive artistic personality in a new take on the hit.
The remix arrives following the success of Rodrigo’s third studio album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 485,000 units in its first week. The album also became the biggest solo debut of 2026 and topped charts in 17 countries, further cementing Rodrigo’s position in the global music landscape.
Alongside the release, Rodrigo and Roan have unveiled an official music video directed by Bardia Zeinali. Set inside a fictional retro game show titled The Big Expectations Show, the video sees the two artists take on different characters and compete through nostalgic games inspired by classic television game shows of the 1980s and 1990s. The production features David Byrne as the host, with a special appearance by Dan Nigro, bringing the concept to life through a playful visual setting.
Beyond digital platforms, the “expectations” remix is also available in limited-edition 7-inch vinyl, CD, and cassette formats through both artists’ official stores. The physical editions offer fans additional ways to experience the collaboration beyond streaming.
The release also follows a significant period for both artists. Rodrigo recently launched her sold-out The Unraveled Tour, which has sold more than one million tickets globally. Meanwhile, Roan continues to expand her presence in pop music through her distinctive performances, songwriting, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ communities.
With its unexpected collaboration, playful concept, and nostalgic visual direction, the “expectations” remix offers a fresh perspective on Rodrigo’s original hit while bringing her and Roan together in a new creative setting.
