Biden to Host Japanese and South Korean Leaders at Camp David on August 18

Joe Biden, the US President, will host Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol for a trilateral summit on August 18 at Camp David, Maryland, the White House.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said, “The three leaders will discuss expanding trilateral cooperation across the Indo-Pacific and beyond – including to address the continuing threat posed by (North Korea) and to strengthen ties with ASEAN and the Pacific Islands”.

Washington wants to push for closer cooperation with its two key Asian allies amid shared concerns about China’s growing power and North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.

Japan and South Korea have moved to repair strained bilateral ties after years of disputes over historical issues undermined cooperation.
