The song “Ketika Tangan Dan Kaki Berkata”, a collaboration between Chrisye dan renowned poet Taufiq Ismail, remains one of the finest masterpieces in Indonesia’s music history to this day. Now, in 2026, more than two decades later, the song returns with a fresh touch through an extraordinary collaboration between Cakra Khan dan the late Chrisye.
A little background on this song, it was born from a poem written by Taufiq Ismail, inspired by Surat Yasin verse 65. Taufiq Ismail revealed that Chrisye gave him time to find the right lyrics, and on Friday night, just before the agreed deadline, he felt he had found the perfect harmony between the poem and melody composed by Chrisye. The recording process became an intensely emotional moment, as Chrisye could not hold back his tears, feeling a deep connection to the touching lyrics about responsibility and humanity. In the end, with great sincerity, Chrisye completed the recording in a single take, without any retakes.
After more than two decades, “Ketika Tangan Dan Kaki Berkata” returns in a deeply touching duet version, with Cakra Khan’s soulful voice blending seamlessly with the original recording of the late Chrisye. Feeling truly honored to share this duet with this Indonesian music legend, Cakra Khan shared his profound impressions of the experience.
“I was extremely excited about this collaboration, even though he is no longer with us, his works and his voice continue to live on to this day. When I first heard the late Chrisye’s voice in its raw form (the original recording), it was an incredibly extraordinary moment. Chrisye’s voice has a very distinct identity, and even though this is a duet, I made every effort not to disturb the soul of the song,” said Cakra Khan.
According to Cakra Khan, cross-generational collaborations like this are incredibly important, as the earlier works of legendary musicians, such as Chrisye, carried deep messages that remain relevant today. In this latest version, although the music has been given a slightly more modern touch, Cakra Khan strives to preserve the song’s authenticity.
The song “Ketika Tangan Dan Kaki Berkata” also comes with a distinctive and unique music video, filmed at GD Sasana Krida Desa, Bumi Perkemahan Cibubur. Directed by Rizal Mantovani, The music video is divided into two parts. The first part portrays Cakra Khan’s performance as he collaborates with Chrisye through archival recordings and visuals enchanted with a “water reflection” effect, creating a deeper spiritual atmosphere. With the help of technology, for the first time ever, Cakra Khan and Chrisye appear together in the same frame in the music video, delivering an emotional and unforgettable moment for viewers.
The second part of the music video carries powerful symbolism, portraying the various good and bad actions carried out by human hands and feet, from showing love and care for children to committing harmful acts, such as corruption and violence. Through these scenes, the video invites us to reflect on our responsibility toward the world we live in.
