Bingkai Karya – The talented young singer, Salma Salsabil, never ceases to amaze. Following the news of her engagement to Dimansyah Laitupa, she’s once again surprised her fans by releasing her debut album titled Berharap Pada Timur.
The album, released under Universal Music Indonesia, consists of eight tracks infused with the nostalgic feel of 80s and 90s retro pop music, all centered around the theme of love.
“The overall theme of this album is love, divided into various phases. There’s the initial stage of love, deep affection, and even the point of weariness in a relationship. So, it’s like a complete package,” Salma Salsabil explained about her album Berharap Pada Timur.
Interestingly, the album includes only one previously released single, “Bunga Hati”, which won four awards at the 2024 Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards. Meanwhile, the remaining seven tracks are all new releases, making the album nearly a fully fresh collection!
The new tracks include “Berharap Pada Timur,” “Jenuh Tapi Butuh,” “Sesal,” “Amin,” “Uji Nyali,” “Terima Kasih,” and “Memori.” Among these, “Memori” is a remake of a song originally performed by Indonesian diva Ruth Sahanaya in 1987, written by Oddie Agam. Salma Salsabil delivers this track with a more modern and fresh vibe.
Not just a singer, Salma Salsabil also contributed to writing most of the songs in Berharap Pada Timur, including the title track and lead single of the album.
For the title track “Berharap Pada Timur,” Salma collaborated with hitmaker Clara Riva in the songwriting process. The track features retro pop vibes with sweet harmonies and prominent synthesizer sounds, complemented by Salma’s strong and unique vocals, making it one of the best love songs of the moment.
“The song Berharap Pada Timur tells a story based on my personal love experiences, just like most of the songs in this album. It captures the ups and downs of love. This song represents my love journey,” Salma Salsabil shared about the single.
Through this debut album, Salma Salsabil hopes to reach many Indonesian music lovers. Since most of the album’s material is new, it serves as a special gift for her listeners who have been eagerly awaiting her album.
