The First Indonesian Language Single by Jubilee Marisa, “Sendiri,” Features Ilman Ibrahim’s Production and Features Retro Pop Components

Bingkai KaryaJubilee Marisa released “sendiri” as her latest song. “sendiri” follows the soloist’s releases of “twentysixteen” (January 2022), “johnnyforever” (August 2022), and “good guys” (August 2023).

Two crucial elements must be noted when discussing “sendiri”. This is Jubilee’s first Indonesian song. Jubilee claimed that her musical influences include senior Indonesian performers like January Christy, Ermy Kullit, Andi Meriem Matalatta, and Rafika Duri.

“I always want to be able to have works that are inspired and the way they write, sing, and choose notes. I want songs with that kind of atmosphere to appear again in Indonesian music today,” said Jubilee. The song “Sendiri” by Jubilee skillfully blends traditional Indonesian pop with current elements, reminiscent of her idols’ age. She sings Indonesian lyrics clearly without having to think about them.

“Sendiri” is based on Jubilee’s assertion that ‘it’s okay to be alone’ and her prior relationship. “In my last relationship, I was ‘indoctrinated’ into thinking I couldn’t be alone. who must be with others. Since I’m single, I’m lonely but glad since I’ve found out a lot about myself.”

The song “sendiri” was released with Ilman Ibrahim (MALIQ & D’Essentials, Laleilmanino), a songwriter and producer. Jubilee knew Ilman when she was 13, which is interesting about their collaboration.

Jubilee worked part-time at Bintaro’s MALIQ D’Essentials coffee shop. Ilman discovered that Jubilee liked singing, which led to studio jams and tapes.

Besides Ilman Ibrahim, Jose Dimas Satria executive produced “sendiri” and Alvin Witarsa played strings. The disparity in domicile between Jubilee and Ilman and harmonizing their schedules made the task difficult. Five months were spent on the lyrics and recording.

“I started this song by making the melody ‘nananana’ and recording it on a DAW. Finally sent to Jubilee. I added lyrics after he tried to write it. Jubilee’s experience is also reflected in the lyrics. With the song playing, I want listeners to feel what Jubilee wrote,” said Ilman.
