Fiji Blue Unveils His Debut Album “Glide”, Include A Heartfelt Single “Beautiful”

Bingkai Karya – Indie pop singer-songwriter Fiji Blue (aka Trevor Dering) releases his debut album, ‘Glide’. The 11-track project features very intimate and accessible stories about love and loss, both romantic and platonic.

“This album was written during a personal transition,” he says. “Adjusting to the termination of relationships can be difficult, leaving one feeling trapped in the middle while processing everything simultaneously overwhelming feelings…It felt like beginning over emotionally and in songwriting.”

After postponing his North American tour to accommodate his wife Natasha’s brain surgery recovery, Fiji Blue will perform ‘Glide’ throughout the US and Canada in February and March. In August, he hit the stage at major festivals like Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Lalala Festival in Jakarta. In November, Fiji Blue visited Singapore, Taipei, Manila, and Hong Kong when it returned to Asia.

Using guitar-heavy narrative, Fiji Blue draws inspiration from artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer, finding creative seclusion. With over 300 million streams from three EPs (‘Reasons You Should Care’ (2021), ‘Goodbye’ (2021), and ‘I Loved You, What Happened?’ (2022), Fiji Blue released their first album, ‘Glide’.

Fiji Blue spent a week in Topanga, writing a song daily and immersing themselves in lush production and organic instrumentation like piano and acoustic guitar to tell the stories on their upcoming album.

The song ‘Glide’ evokes a sense of feeling, balancing the anguish and affection that inspired it. In its most heartbreaking moments, it contemplates the lingering effects of those who never truly leave us. However, at its most uplifting moments, it expresses gratitude for loved ones and a hopeful future.

“I love sad music, and if I could only write sad music, I would,” he laughs. “My favorite aspect of Fiji Blue is the combination of uplifting melodies and production with sorrowful lyrics. Finding a medium ground is nice sometimes.”
