Bingkai Karya – Internationally acclaimed drummer, producer, and sonic collagist Makaya McCraven returns with a groundbreaking release: four new singles, each from a different EP, Techno Logic, The People’s Mixtape, Hidden Out!, and PopUp Shop. All four projects will be available on streaming platforms starting October 31.

A Return to “Organic Beat Music”

This release marks McCraven’s first new recording since his widely praised 2022 album In These Times, hailed by the GRAMMYs as his “most ambitious work yet.” With these EPs, McCraven revisits his signature “organic beat music,” a style he first introduced on In the Moment (2015) and developed further in Highly Rare (2017), Where We Come From (2018), and Universal Beings (2018).

Each EP is built from moments of pure improvisation, captured live in different cities, shaped by the room, the audience, and the musicians on stage. McCraven then reimagines these recordings in his Chicago home studio, layering them with extensive editing, overdubs, and production.

Makaya McCraven: The “Cultural Synthesizer”

Frequently described as a “cultural synthesizer” and “beat scientist,” McCraven has built a reputation for dissolving boundaries and connecting past, present, and future in what Passion of Weiss calls “the next evolution of Black improvised music.”

He has been profiled in The New York Times, Vice, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and NPR. His work remains a vital voice in the 21st-century conversation around jazz, constantly redefining what improvisation can mean.
