Bingkai Karya – In a momentous event on International Disability Day 2023 at the Malang Creative Center, Grand Mercure Malang Mirama received a prestigious award from the Malang City P3APK2B Social Service for its outstanding contribution as the sole hotel providing inclusive workspaces for people with disabilities in Malang Raya. The recognition comes after a year of dedicated efforts by the hotel, making it a trailblazer in the region for fostering equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Grand Mercure Malang Mirama’s commitment to inclusivity was further underscored by the employment of four individuals with disabilities over the past year. Hafizh Ardiansyah, who is deaf, Fiona Sachiko Zahwa and Muhammad Ainur Roziqin, both with impairments, and Choirul Anam, who is blind, have found meaningful employment in different departments of the hotel.
Sugito Adhi, the General Manager of Grand Mercure Malang Mirama, shared his perspective on the significance of this recognition. “This is our contribution to society, a testament to our commitment to providing space and forums for people with disabilities, ensuring they have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.”
Throughout the year, the hotel has organized various events and activities that advocate for equal rights for people with disabilities, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. One noteworthy event was a special arts performance during the hotel’s anniversary celebration in October, held in the Coffee Cafe area, allowing employees with disabilities to showcase their creativity and abilities.
Sugito Adhi outlined some of the initiatives undertaken by the hotel management. The Accor World Duo Days, a program preceding the establishment of the inclusive workspace, included mass circumcision for people with disabilities and the DEI Show (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) campaign, promoting awareness about diversity and differences for equal rights.
In addition to these initiatives, Grand Mercure Malang Mirama has been actively engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. These efforts demonstrate the hotel’s commitment to creating a positive impact beyond its immediate operations, contributing to the betterment of the community it serves.
Donny Sandito W, Head of the Malang City P3APK2B Social Service, commended the hotel for its exemplary efforts. He noted that individuals with disabilities at Grand Mercure Malang Mirama have not only become a source of inspiration for their colleagues but also for the broader community. Expressing optimism, he encouraged them to work optimally, showcasing that their abilities far outweigh any limitations.
Grand Mercure Malang Mirama’s pioneering initiatives in providing an inclusive workspace have set a commendable standard for businesses in Malang Raya. The hotel’s commitment to diversity and equal rights serves as a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating that inclusivity is not just a corporate responsibility but a powerful catalyst for positive societal change.
