How To Count Your Sunscreen SPF to Protect Your Skin

Besides using your skincare products, protecting your skin is also a crucial thing to do to achieve a healthy skin. Most people used to glorify doing their day and night skincare steps that usually consist of toner, essence, serum, and several other skincare steps but often forget to use sunscreen as their daily skin protector.

The fact is, using sunscreen plays a big part in protecting your skin from hazardous things you might have on your face while doing your activities outside your home or maybe, even inside! Aside from protecting your skin, using sunscreen also can decrease the risk of getting skin cancer.

Even if using sunscreen is really important for the sake of your skin health, a lot of people are still confused on using the right SPF (Sun Protection Factor) amount of sunscreen. There are several types of SPF amounts that are usually contained in sunscreen products, such as 5, 30, and 40.

Each SPF amount has each calculation for the resilience of the sunscreen products. Our skin will turn red and will be burned in 20 minutes. We can use 20 minutes as the multiplier for the SPF amount.

For example, if you use sunscreen with 15 SPF, multiply it with 20 minutes. So we can conclude that the resilience of the sunscreen protection is 300 minutes, or 5 hours.

There are several sunscreen resilience ranks or levels based on the SPF amount of the sunscreen. Low protection levels are those which have an SPF amount under 15. Mid protection levels are those which have an SPF amount from 15 to 29. High protection levels are those which have an SPF amount from 30 to 49. Very high protection levels are those which have an SPF amount above 50.

So that’s how you count the right sunscreen protection. You can adjust the SPF amount for your sunscreen based on your activities (indoor or outdoor, activity time period, and many more).
