India Proposes Bangladesh Enhance Defense Technologies Together

India’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Verma, proposed that Dhaka develop and produce defense equipment jointly, while also inviting Bangladesh Armed Forces to benefit from India’s cost-effective and high-quality military equipment. The envoy also expressed India’s willingness to collaborate with Bangladesh on defense modernization through the $500 million Defence Line of Credit that New Delhi had previously extended to Dhaka.

According to a press release issued by the Indian High Commission here, Verma made the remark while delivering a keynote speech at a seminar on Indian Defence Equipment (SIDE) in Dhaka as part of an initiative to promote defense industry cooperation between India and Bangladesh. The envoy urged both sides’ defense industries to fully utilize the Defence Line of Credit.

Defense industry cooperation between India and Bangladesh, according to the high commissioner, is an emerging focus area of their defense partnership. He highlighted the accomplishments of the Indian defense industry over the last nearly a decade driven by Indian prime minister’s vision of “Make in India, Make for the World”. Lt Gen Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan, Chief of General Staff of the Bangladesh Army, delivered a separate keynote address.

The chief of the Bangladesh Army praised India’s defense manufacturing capabilities and proposed closer cooperation between the two countries for a stronger defense industry partnership. Several key Indian defense manufacturers, both public and private, took part and presented their defense products and platforms.

There were representatives from the Bangladesh Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, and law enforcement agencies present. India and Bangladesh have a close and friendly defense relationship that covers a wide range of cooperation areas and is guided by the spirit of their shared sacrifices during the 1971 Liberation War.
