Indonesia and China Held a Meeting to Deepen Strategic Cooperation

The Chinese government agreed to deepen cooperative relations with Indonesia. This cooperative relationship is expected to be an example for developing countries in building solidarity and encouraging joint development, as well as providing positive energy for the region and the world.

Strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and China was strengthened in a meeting between President Joko Widodo and President Xi Jinping in Chengdu. President Jokowi came to fulfill President Xi’s invitation.

In that meeting, Jokowi will attend the opening ceremony of the world’s student sports event, the 31st FISU World University Games. President Jokowi will also be scheduled to meet with a number of CEOs or leaders of Chinese companies.

President Xi said he wanted to take advantage of the 10-year comprehensive strategic partnership momentum to deepen strategic cooperation with Indonesia. China wants to maintain regular strategic communication with Indonesia, strengthen the exchange of experience in managing countries, and initiate a ‘2+2’ dialogue mechanism for the foreign ministers and defense ministers of the two countries.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed strengthening trade, health cooperation, development of the Archipelago’s Capital City (IKN), investment, and research and technology cooperation. Not only that, they also discussed several issues such as China’s support for ASEAN centrality to create a peaceful Indo-Pacific region. The two leaders also ensured the completion of the Jakarta-Bandung fast train to a high standard. China is also willing to expand imports of bulk commodities and agricultural products, as well as areas of electric car and smart city cooperation.

After the meeting, President Jokowi and President Xi witnessed the signing of some cooperation documents agreed by the two countries. The documents are a protocol on inspection and quarantine requirements for the export of konjac powder, a protocol on the phytosanitary requirements for the export of tabasheer, an action plan for cooperation in the health sector, and a memorandum of understanding on a joint research and development center.

Moreover, they also seen the signing of memorandum of understanding on planning cooperation in sharing knowledge and experience regarding the new capital city of Indonesia, as well as a memorandum of understanding on increasing cooperation between Indonesia and China “Two Countries, Twin Parks”. Then, two cooperation documents that were circularly signed, a memorandum of understanding on economic and technical cooperation, and a memorandum of understanding on Chinese language education.

Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador of China, also explained that while in China, President Jokowi was also scheduled to hold business meetings with business people in China who support development and development priorities in Indonesia.

During the gathering, Mrs. Iriana received tea with the First Lady of China, Mrs. Peng Liyuan at the Jinniu Hotel, Chengdu. Mrs. Peng showed and explained some of the hotel’s collection of jars and cloth. Mrs. Iriana was also shown the activities of making green tea, painting on a tea bowl, then talking and watching a show serving tea.
