Sadako, a long black haired woman with white dress who was famous for “crawling out of tv” scene, managed to become a new icon in the horror film genre in 1998. The film was based on the novel by Koji Suzuki entitled “Ring” or “Ringu” in Japanese and made it to the big screen with the same title. The novel has been adapted into a film in both Japan and the United States. Due to its success a year later, the sequel “Ringu 2” (1999) was released.
Japanese horror films fans may be familiar with Sadako from The Ring who was able to get out of a television. The good news is that now the ghost can be your traveling companion. A taxi app in Japan called S.RIDE offers a ride with Sadako starting from October 24 – November 16, 2022 in the Tokyo area. The activity called “Sadako Taxi” is an effort to welcome the latest Sadako film, “Sadako DX”, which will be released on October 28, 2022.
According to the official website, there are only 50 taxis that offer this experience. Prospective passengers are also required to order it specifically through the application. Interestingly, the screen of the Sadako Taxi booking application will turn dark with the words, “Looks like he is coming” while waiting for the vehicle to arrive. While riding the taxi, the passenger can see Sadako ghost coming out of the front monitor. To support the experience, they must use the AR (Augmented Reality) feature first.
