In collaboration, Major Lazer and South African Superstars Major League DJs unveiled a new song called “Koo Koo Fun” on September 22, 2022.
The song is based on Amapiano, a South African house music genre that initially appeared in 2012 and is descended from South African house genres kwaito and Afrobeats. It is the first new music by Major Lazer since last year. The music’s sound, a mashup of deep house, jazz, and lounge, is distinguished by synthesizers, airy pads, and wide percussion basslines. The two groups work together on “Koo Koo Fun” alongside Savage, one of the biggest performers to come out of Africa recently. Additionally, Major Lazer and DJ Maphorisa, with whom they previously worked on “Particula,” are reunited.
This autumn, Major League DJz will embark on their first headline tour of North America, beginning on October 6 in Los Angeles.
