Bingkai Karya -Indonesian indie rock darlings Reality Club are stepping into a new era with their fourth studio album “Who Knows Where Life Will Take You?”. Recorded in Bangkok with producers Brad Oberhofer, Iga Massardi, and Wisnu Ikhsantama, the 13-track album captures the Jakarta quartet at their most honest, carefree, and confident to date.
The record follows the success of Reality Club Presents… (2023), which spawned their biggest hit Anything You Want, earned multiple AMI Awards, and took them on a North American tour including opening slots for superstar NIKI across Southeast Asia. But instead of chasing bigger accolades, Reality Club’s biggest challenge this time was themselves.
“We’d always carried a bit of impostor syndrome and downplayed our achievements,” admits frontman Faiz Novascotia Saripudin. “This time, we decided to stop that. No more impostor syndrome, that’s the mantra of this album.”
As a result, Who Knows Where Life Will Take You? channels the carefree indie rock spirit of their debut while showcasing the skills and maturity they’ve gained over nine years together. Romance, in all its messy, funny, and heartfelt forms, still dominates Reality Club’s songwriting, whether it’s the melancholic Muted Sirens, the wryly titled Finding a Catholic Man to Love the Love of My Life, or the playful Quick! Love! written by vocalist Fathia Izzati.
But this time, the stories expand to family, faith, and self-discovery: drummer Era pens opener I’ll Do It Myself inspired by his wife’s workplace frustrations, Fathia dedicates the tender Mama’s Coming Home to her son, while bassist Nugi makes his writing debut on the yearning rocker Does It Happen? and co-adapts the band’s first Indonesian-language song, Close to You/Jauh.
The album was recorded largely live in-studio with the band playing together alongside longtime live guitarist Gerry Roithart and new synth player Upi Maajid. The raw setup captured not just the music but also the laughs, glances, and emotions that defined the sessions. “Recording live gave us new energy and focus,” says drummer Era. “You can literally hear the connection.”
With a mix of wit, intimacy, and fearless honesty, Who Knows Where Life Will Take You? proves Reality Club are no longer trying to prove themselves, they’re simply being themselves.
“Maybe we’re not small fries anymore. Maybe we do deserve this,” says Faiz. “We don’t know where this album will take us, but wherever it is, we’re ready.
