Singaporean singer-songwriter Alicia DC is back in the spotlight with her latest single, “bodyclock,” ushering in a new chapter in her musical journey. Known for her exploration of alternative jazz and pop genres in her previous works, Alicia takes a more intimate and acoustic approach with this release, showcasing her versatility as an artist.
“Bodyclock” is a departure from her previous musical endeavors, delving into a 6/8 pop-ballad style with a touch of soul. This song represents Alicia’s most significant foray into acoustic music, offering listeners a more vulnerable and personal glimpse into her artistic expression. The inspiration behind the track stems from sleepless nights spent grappling with toxic relationships and the anxiety they engendered. Through her lyrics and emotive vocals, Alicia invites her audience to connect with her inner turmoil, fostering a sense of catharsis for those who can relate.
Alicia DC’s musical journey began in earnest last year with her debut EP, “Maybe,” a product of the *SCAPE Music ALT. Residency program. This initiative pairs budding musicians with mentors to refine their original compositions into polished tracks. Collaborating with industry professionals such as Weish, Isa Ong, and Leonard Soosay, Alicia crafted her inaugural EP, showcasing her talent and promise as an emerging artist. Following this debut, she released “Lovergirl,” a more pop-focused EP that further demonstrated her artistic growth.
Throughout the past year, Alicia has graced the stages of renowned venues like the Esplanade and the Singapore Art Museum. She also participated in local art festivals, including the Singapore Night Festival and the Waterloo Singapore Night Festival, where her distinctive sound captivated audiences. Notably, she had the honor of opening for Korean American R&B artist Hojean during his Singapore show in June 2023.
