Director Joko Anwar has finally announced the cast of his latest film, “Siksa Kubur” (Grave Punishment). In a photo uploaded on his social media account, Joko posted 20 pictures of the actors involved in the film. Among those announced are Faradina Mufti, Reza Rahadian, Fachri Albar, Happy Salma, Widuri Puteri, Muzakki Ramdhan, Slamet Rahardjo, Christine Hakim, Arwendy Bening Swara, Niniek L Karim, and many more. “With pride, I would like to announce the ensemble of the best Indonesian actors who have come together in my 10th film, ‘SIKSA KUBUR.’ My entire team feels very grateful and fortunate to be able to work with these beloved role models of ours,” Joko Anwar wrote, as quoted from X (formerly Twitter), on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
Joko Anwar also gave a hint that the film will be released in theaters next year. “Hopefully, it can make a meaningful contribution to Indonesian cinema. Amen,” Joko wrote again. “Filming has begun and it will be in theaters, hopefully next year! Please pray for us, friends!” Joko Anwar concluded.
The short film “Siksa Kubur” tells the story of a serial killer’s child who accidentally ends up in his father’s coffin. Armed only with a lighter, the child must witness his father being punished in the grave for what he did in the world.
