YG Entertainment officially announced the final members of its newest girl group, BABYMONSTER. The news was delivered directly by Yang Hyun Suk, the founder of YG Entertainment. The seven members of BABYMONSTER are Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram, Pharita, Rora, and Asa. They were selected after going through a series of training and selection processes.
“YG Family is not just an association of YG artists, because I believe that YG fans and all the people who diligently watch us are the real YG Family,” Hyun-suk said when announcing the seven members on Friday (12/5). “I will accept all seven with me,” Hyun-suk continued.
The agency previously announced that seven YG trainees were preparing to debut as members of BABYMONSTER. They went through a series of assessment exercises and evaluations, which were then uploaded to YG Entertainment’s official YouTube channel.

Hyun Suk also briefly explained that BABYMONSTER was originally conceived as a five-member girl group. This also signaled that two trainees would be lost to selection. In the announcement, the founder also initially announced only five members. They were Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram and Pharita.
Hyun-suk explained that each of YG’s trainees has an important advantage for the girl group. Some of them are talented in singing and dancing and are consistent in training. Meanwhile, due to various considerations, Rora and Asa were not included in the selection. Hyun-suk explained that Ro-ra was too young to potentially debut in the next girl group YG made.
As for Asa, according to Hyun-suk, she did not fit the BABYMONSTER concept. YG Entertainment is also said to be planning to form a Japanese girl group, and Asa could be a part of it. Hyun Suk also explained why it took him up to two weeks to decide on the members of BABYMONSTER. According to him, most fans wanted the girl group to debut with seven members.
He then re-evaluated his plan to only choose five members. Finally, Hyun Suk decided to keep Rora and Asa as the sixth and seventh members. On the other hand, the founder of YG Entertainment also confirmed that BABYMONSTER will debut soon.
