Bingkai Karya-Nashville based musician, mxmtoon releases a new single “i hate texas.” A song that will be featured on her upcoming and soon-to-be-announced third album. Not only is it her best work to date, but it’s also among her most intimate.
She shares a post-breakup escape fantasy in “i hate texas,” a fiddle-laced track co-written with underscores. The lyrics alternate between being lyrically sweet like “I haven’t left my apartment in a real long time. I’m making friends with the stars at night” and bluntly honest “I hate texas. But the exits have more room to run away from you”).
“Working on ‘i hate texas’ felt like when I first started making music, like I was completely in my element,” she recalls. “I felt inspired to get a little sarcastic and write a song with some kick to it, just as pure fun.”
Since she was 17-years-old, mxmtoon has made exquisitely catchy pop songs that capture the kind of complex and tender feelings we often keep hidden from the world. The artist, who was born in Oakland and is currently based in Nashville, has gained a devoted worldwide fan base over the years as a result of her unabashed self-expression. It has also paved the way for her to collaborate with artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen and Noah Kahan and launched her into an extensive career that has included podcast hosting and graphic novel writing.
