Bingkai Karya – After a five-year gap since their last album, CHVRCHES Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty, and Lain Cook have returned with “Roses,” a bold new single that signals a significant shift in the band’s musical direction. The track was released via Futures Music Group, home to artists including Lykke Li, Phantogram, and Mt. Joy, and received its first play as the “Hottest Record” on BBC Radio 1.
“Roses” introduces a sharper, more confrontational side of CHVRCHES. Described as a contemporary work of social criticism, the track addresses the darker undercurrents of life in Britain through pointed lyrics and an increasingly intense musical atmosphere. Its closing, Orwellian-toned declaration, “If I may command your undivided attention, now we can start,” sets the stage for what the band describes as a new body of work unlike anything they have released before.
The single also marks a deliberate departure from the familiar. After taking their longest break between albums, the trio returned to the writing process with a desire to push themselves creatively rather than repeat what they had done in the past. For Lauren Mayberry, that process resulted in what she describes as the band’s most coherent vision yet, reflecting their excitement about entering a new phase together.
The return of CHVRCHES will also extend beyond the new single. The band has announced two intimate special performances this autumn, with proceeds from the shows going to charity. They will perform in their hometown of Glasgow on October 26 before heading to London on October 29. Fans can participate in the ticket ballot for the upcoming performances.
With “Roses,” CHVRCHES open a new chapter built around experimentation, sharper songwriting, and a renewed creative vision. The single is now available via Futures Music Group, inviting listeners to experience the beginning of the band’s next era.
