Bingkai karya – Lomba Sihir return with a fresh surprise through a new interpretation of the legendary track “Melompat Lebih Tinggi,” originally performed by Sheila On 7. The song serves as the opening release for “Reka Ulang: Karya dan Komposisi Lagu Terbaik,” an initiative by Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia aimed at reviving iconic Indonesian songs through the perspectives of a new generation of musicians.
For Lomba Sihir, reimagining a song written by Eross Candra was not only an honor, but also an exciting challenge. As a band that grew up listening to Sheila On 7’s music, “Melompat Lebih Tinggi” has long been part of their collective memory. Because of that, creating a new version of the song felt like an emotional journey balancing respect for the original work with the desire to bring in their own musical identity. “It’s an honor and also a huge yet exciting challenge for Lomba Sihir to give a new character to such an iconic song,” the band shared regarding their involvement in the project.
Rather than drastically changing the song, Lomba Sihir chose to infuse “Melompat Lebih Tinggi” with their own musical colors. The arrangement was explored through a style that feels distinctly Lomba Sihir while still preserving the soul of the original track. For them, the process of working on this song proved one important thing: a truly great song will always remain special no matter how it is rearranged.
“What made working on this song so exciting is realizing that a great song will still sound great no matter how it’s arranged. So we decided to bring the Lomba Sihir touch into a song that was already incredibly beautiful,” they continued. One element that remains untouched in this new version is the iconic guitar riff in the middle section of the song. According to Lomba Sihir, that part has become an inseparable identity of “Melompat Lebih Tinggi.” “Mas Eross’ solo is the perfect counterpart to this song. It has to be played exactly like the original otherwise, it wouldn’t be ‘Melompat Lebih Tinggi.’”
Through this reinterpretation, Lomba Sihir not only brings nostalgia to longtime listeners, but also opens the door for a new generation to rediscover one of the most influential songs in Indonesian pop music history.
