A Love Letter to Parents: Aruma Reimagines SB19’s ‘MAPA’ in Indonesian for a Deeply Personal Collaboration

Bingkai Karya – Love is a universal theme in music, ranging from romantic love to friendships, and most importantly, love for our parents. This last theme is exactly what Aruma highlights in her latest single, “MAPA.” Interestingly, “MAPA” is a recycled song originally performed by SB19, a Filipino vocal group consisting of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin, and was first released in May 2021.

This time, Aruma is not just singing, she also participated in adapting the lyrics into Indonesian. “While my songs usually talk about romantic love, this one explores parental love through a remake of SB19’s single. What’s even more special is that I helped rewrite the lyrics with the Sony Music team to keep the message intact in Indonesian,” Aruma shares enthusiastically.

The collaboration offer came directly from SB19 under Sony Music Philippines. Aruma was immediately intrigued by the opportunity to explore a different theme. “It’s rare to have a chance to express love for our parents through music. I feel honored to be part of such a heartfelt work. I’ve always wanted a song that felt this warm and personal, and I never expected the chance would come through a cross-country collaboration.”

Once she accepted the offer, Aruma and the Sony Music Indonesia team began the process of adjusting the lyrics into Indonesian, ensuring they remained natural and heartfelt. “It took quite some time, honestly, because I needed to ensure the lyrics felt right, easy to sing and listen to, and still emotionally resonant for local listeners. I was fully supported by the label and the entire team throughout the process until we were finally ready for the release on June 27,” Aruma explained.

The original track was produced by Pablo, Jay Durias, and Simon Servida, the trio behind its initial success in the Philippines.

To Aruma, “MAPA” is a reminder to return to our roots, our parents. “For anyone listening to this song who might be far from their parents, due to work, studies, or anything else, I hope this piece serves as a gentle nudge to reconnect. Our parents are where it all begins. They planted the seed of my love for music and have always supported me unconditionally. Whatever success I’ve achieved is undoubtedly intertwined with their influence,” Aruma reflected.

Unlike her previous singles, this project presented a unique challenge. “The biggest challenge was matching the emotional energy between myself and SB19 so our vocals would complement each other. I also had to perform this song with complete honesty, allowing the message to genuinely touch the hearts of listeners. On the bright side, this experience has opened me up to exploring broader and deeper themes. Love is not just about romantic relationships, it’s also about family, friendships, and even self-love. I hope I can continue to explore these themes in the future. For now, I invite everyone to enjoy ‘MAPA,’ my collaboration with SB19, and always remember to cherish your parents, wherever you are,” she concludes.

The latest single “MAPA” by Aruma and SB19 is available on all digital streaming platforms starting June 27, 2025.
