“Layar” is a musical journey that tells the story of a love left behind the “screen” of life. Its deep lyrics, such as “Saat layar tlah tertutup, cinta yang lalu tertinggal jauh” and “Belai sayang, darimu tak ada lagi” (translated: “When the curtain closes, the past love is left behind” and “Your tender touch is no more”) express regret and longing after a romantic separation. The song captures the sadness and loneliness after a breakup, with lingering memories of love. It also touches on the loss of intimacy—caresses, kisses, and hugs that now only live in memory. “Layar” carries themes of heartbreak, remorse, and acceptance, with a melancholic tone filled with hope for the future.
“Maybe we think love needs to be spoken with words, but for Faizal Lubis, that’s not necessary, it’s more about showing it through warmth and caring gestures,” said Faizal. “Layar is the name of the man in the song, who, with all his charm, faces the dilemma of choosing between two women in his life. In the end, he chooses to walk away from both, not wanting to hurt the ones he loves,” he added.
The recording process of “Layar” featured an intense collaboration between Titi DJ and Cakra Khan, each bringing their unique experiences and interpretations of love and loss. The result is a duet that’s not only musically harmonious but emotionally rich, exemplified in the line, “Biar ku hidup dalam semua ceritamu” (“Let me live in all of your stories”). Uniquely, the vocal recording took place in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic. The beautiful architecture of the city added meaning to the recording process, which occurred at Smecky Music Studio alongside the Prague-based orchestra, The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestral touch elevated the emotional depth of the song even further.
Titi DJ shared, “Singing ‘Layar’ was a challenge. This song took me through the bittersweet memories of past love.” Meanwhile, Cakra Khan added, “The lyrics and melody of ‘Layar’ are so powerful, they make listeners feel as though they’re sailing through waves of deep emotion.”

The film tells a complex love story between Rama and Sinta, unfolding during the making of a documentary and a musical theater performance about the history of Indonesian cinema. “Layar” enriches the film’s narrative, adding an emotional layer to its story of love and cultural heritage.“
