aespa has been confirmed to attend the 76th Cannes Film Festival which takes place on May 16-27, 2023. This news was confirmed by SM Entertainment. The presence of aespa makes new history as they are the first K-pop girl group to attend the Cannes Film Festival.
The idols, Karina, Winter, Giselle, and Ningning, will come as brand ambassadors for Swiss Chopard. The luxury jewelry brand has been an official sponsor of the Cannes Film Festival since 1997. However, aespa is not the only K-pop idol to attend the prestigious film festival. Two other singers, Krystal Jung, and BIBI, are also rumored to be attending the Cannes 2023 event as guests.
Krystal attended because she starred in Cobweb, one of the films that will be shown at the festival. Apart from Krystal, the movie also stars Song Kang-ho, Im Soo-Jung, and Jeon Yeo-been. At the same time, BIBI came as an actress in the movie Hopeless, which is also screening at Cannes. The movie stars Song Joong-ki and Hong Sa-bin.
Jennie BLACKPINK is also rumored to have received an invitation to attend Cannes 2023. The invitation came after Jennie’s starring series The Idol premiered at the festival. YG Entertainment also confirmed the news, stating that Jennie had not yet decided to attend the international film festival.
Meanwhile, aespa will make a comeback by releasing a new album on May 8, 2023. The album is aespa’s first comeback in 10 months since “Girls” was released in July 2022.
