An Honest Safe Space for Every Emotion, Petra Sihombing Drops “senang ok, sedih gpp”

Bingkai Karya – Indonesian singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Petra Sihombing has released his new album senang ok, sedih gpp, a refreshing presence in today’s music scene. Instead of trying to “fix” sadness or wrap happiness in perfection, Petra allows both emotions to coexist, side by side. This body of work invites listeners to fully embrace moments of joy and sadness as equally natural parts of life.

Each track reflects a process of growth, acceptance, and keeping the heart open even when life doesn’t go according to plan. Without preaching or forcing a resolution, this album creates a space for listeners to feel, reflect, and find comfort in their own journey. Through the candid lyrics of senang ok, sedih gpp, Petra reminds us not only to celebrate happiness, but also to embrace sadness as an essential human experience.

“I made senang ok, sedih gpp as a space where every feeling is allowed to exist together. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes both in one day and that’s okay. I’m not looking for answers or conclusions here. I just want to be able to accept and process what I feel, and maybe this can be a home for others too. These are songs I wrote slowly, while living, while still trying to understand myself,” Petra shares.

The album was preceded by the single “80 km/h”, released last June a metaphor for driving without a clear direction, representing exhaustion, escape, and eventual surrender. Listeners will find more reflections in tracks like “sebelum 30” (on the anxiety of approaching age 30 and societal expectations) and “1000 1000” (on the different journeys and timelines each person experiences). Themes of love and relationships are explored in “problematika masa kini”, “masih banyak cinta di dunia”, and “berbeda realita”, while self-awareness and self-love are highlighted in “bagasi”, “hantu di lemari”, and “kau dan canggumu”, closing with “sia-sia”, a fitting finale that encapsulates the album’s essence of living life as it is.

From the album’s lead single “tangguh”, Petra pays tribute to a person whose strength is quiet yet deeply meaningful. The song is filled with admiration, teaching that resilience doesn’t always have to be loud sometimes, it’s calm and genuine, like a prayer accompanying listeners on their own journey.

senang ok, sedih gpp serves as an emotional documentation of how Petra sees life in its raw form. In a world constantly demanding certainty and solutions, this album encourages listeners to pause, truly feel, and move forward with a calmer heart.
