Building an Inclusive Women’s Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in collaboration BINUS University & University of Northampton

Bingkai KaryaBINUS University and the University of Northampton, UK, collaborated to promote women’s entrepreneurship in higher education through a Policy Roundtable on Advancing Women’s Employment. The British Council’s Gender Equality Partnership Program supported this initiative, which featured two local partners: Darul ‘Ulum University in Jombang, East Java, and Alkhairaat University in Palu, Sulawesi.

The event promoted stakeholder dialogue and dissemination of preliminary findings on women’s entrepreneurship in higher education. Together, experts, university partners, policy officials, and students developed ideas to enhance gender inclusion in entrepreneurial programs. 

The Activity

Additionally, this activity provided a venue for institutions in the UK and Indonesia to share experiences, innovative techniques, and best practices for promoting women’s entrepreneurship. During constructive discourse, participants explored problems faced by women in developing enterprises and explored innovative ideas to create a more supportive and competitive environment in higher education.

During the conversation, Doni Handoko, Head of UPT Pelatihan at the Cooperatives and SMEs Office of East Java, emphasized the need for SMEs, particularly women, to strengthen government relationships.

The speaker stressed that this relationship provides firms with up-to-date information about programs that assist growth, such as mentoring and funding. According to Doni, one method to engage with government accounts on social media is by commenting on pertinent content. This step can enhance teamwork and access to resources, according to him.

According to Dr. Tatum S. Adiningrum, M.Ed., Ph.D., Academic Development Senior Manager at BINUS University, this activity highlights the particular obstacles faced by women entrepreneurs, which require a distinct approach and attention. This enhances the entrepreneurship learning experience on campus, making it more effective and relevant.

This event demonstrates global support for women’s entrepreneurship and promotes collaboration among academia, policy makers, and industry players. With a common vision for a more inclusive and competitive future, this Policy Roundtable aims to enhance Indonesia’s women’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
