Bingkai Karya – There is always something intriguing when an artist decides which song will serve as the gateway to their next chapter. Not necessarily a song designed to be instantly accessible, nor one created to recreate the success of what came before. Instead, it is a work that ventures into new territory, reaching beyond what listeners have come to expect. That is exactly what Rony Parulian does with his latest single, “Wals Akhir Zaman,” released under Universal Music Indonesia.
Available on all digital streaming platforms starting June 26, 2026, “Wals Akhir Zaman” marks the first step into a new musical landscape for Rony. It is a piece that feels broader, more cinematic, and unafraid to distance itself from the sound that has previously defined him.
“This song represents the direction I want to take moving forward, both musically and narratively. From a musical standpoint, ‘Wals Akhir Zaman’ introduces a broader, more alternative sound compared to my previous work. Story-wise, it also serves as the gateway to a larger theme that will continue throughout several upcoming projects: love, perseverance, and choosing to stay even when life isn’t always easy,” says Rony.
Rather than telling a perfect, romantic love story, “Wals Akhir Zaman” finds beauty in uncertainty. The song imagines two people continuing to dance together even as the world around them seems to be falling apart.
“To me, ‘Wals Akhir Zaman’ isn’t literally about the end of the world. It’s about finding someone you would still choose, even when everything around you is falling apart. The image of dancing while the world collapses feels like a beautiful metaphor for that kind of love,” he continues.
The transformation heard throughout the song did not happen by chance. Rony collaborated with Petra Sihombing as producer while working alongside Rendy Pandugo during the songwriting process. The collaboration became a space for exploration that encouraged Rony to move beyond the creative habits that had long felt familiar.
For Petra, the process never started with deciding what the song should sound like. Instead, the priority was discovering the musical form that best suited “Wals Akhir Zaman.”
“For me, the most important thing is figuring out where the song naturally wants to go. We spent a lot of time listening to each other. What matters most is understanding the artist’s vision, because they’re the one who will continue living with the song long after it’s released,” says Petra Sihombing.
Meanwhile, Rendy Pandugo believes Rony possesses something increasingly rare in today’s music scene not only in the uniqueness of his voice, but also in his willingness to bring that identity into a more mature musical space.
“I think it’s becoming rare these days to find a singer with a voice and persona like Rony’s, especially in the pop-rock space. He’s definitely one of the most standout artists out there,” says Rendy.
The song’s emotional narrative is reflected in an equally expansive musical arrangement. Petra Sihombing contributed electric piano, bass, and programming, while Rendy Pandugo added layers of acoustic and electric guitars that became one of the defining foundations of “Wals Akhir Zaman.” Drums by Enrico Octaviano, string arrangements by Vinson Vivaldi and Roni Seiler, along with mixing and mastering by Dimas Pradipta, further shaped the cinematic atmosphere that defines the song.
“I hope people can see that I’m still growing not only as a musician, but also as a person who’s still learning about life. ‘Wals Akhir Zaman’ is a new step for me,” Rony concludes.
The journey of “Wals Akhir Zaman” will also unfold visually. Its official music video is scheduled to premiere on June 26, 2026, via Rony Parulian’s YouTube channel, directed by Yogi Kusuma. Expanding upon the world introduced through the song, the video serves as a visual extension of the new artistic chapter Rony is inviting listeners into.
