Dark Lyrics and Theatrical Rock Return in “Skinny Lies” from The Funeral Portrait

Bingkai KaryaThe Funeral Portrait, an emo rock revival band, keeps moving forward. Their hit single “Suffocate City” (feat. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills) reached #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay and Mediabase’s Active Rock charts last year. Now, they are back in the Top 10 with “Holy Water,” featuring vocals from Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch.

With members Lee Jennings (vocals), Cody Weissinger (guitar), Caleb Freihaut (guitar/auxiliary), Robert Weston (bass), and Homer Umbanhowar (drums), they have released a lyric video for their song “Skinny Lies.” This emotional song with dark lyrics and strong vocals from Jennings is one of three new tracks in the deluxe edition of their second album “Greetings from Suffocate City”, coming out June 13 through Better Noise Music.

“‘Skinny Lies’ is about how a relationship can break because of small lies that eventually come out,” said Lee Jennings (vocalist). “When the truth appears, you wish you could go back to the time when you didn’t know anything. The song is full of tension, regret, and raw emotion when facing reality.”

To celebrate the release of “Skinny Lies,” The Funeral Portrait is holding a special giveaway for fans. The grand prize is a trip to Atlanta to watch their “Hometown Rock Ritual” concert, which supports The Trevor Project—a leading nonprofit for suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ youth. The prize includes round-trip tickets to Atlanta, a two-night hotel stay, and two VIP tickets to the June 4 hometown show with Ice Nine Kills at the Tabernacle, plus an exclusive on-stage experience.

Pre-orders for the deluxe edition of Greetings from Suffocate City are now open in digital, CD, and vinyl formats. The deluxe digital version will include 24 tracks, including “Holy Water” (feat. Ivan Moody), songs from the CASSANOVA and FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS EPs, a new version of “Hearse for Two” (feat. Lilith Czar), and three new songs: “Skinny Lies,” “Evergreen,” and “Lost Boy.” The two-disc CD and vinyl sets will contain 21 songs, with a special track exclusive to physical formats: “Friends Like These.”

The original Greetings from Suffocate City was released on September 13, 2024, with 14 theatrical and bold songs. The album features guest appearances from Bert McCracken (The Used), Spencer Charnas (Ice Nine Kills), Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria), and Amanda Lyberg (Eva Under Fire).

As for touring, The Funeral Portrait continues their message through a busy tour schedule in 2025. They began their own headlining tour on April 18, supported by The Rasmus and Archers. Starting April 30, they join Ice Nine Kills on tour and will also perform at major festivals like Vans Warped Tour, Louder Than Life, Rocklahoma, Welcome to Rockville, and Rock Fest. Later this year, they will head to Europe to perform with The Rasmus.

About The Funeral Portrait

The Funeral Portrait includes lead singer and founder Lee Jennings, guitarists Cody Weissinger and Caleb Freihaut, bassist Robert Weston, and drummer Homer Umbanhower. Some grew up loving Avenged Sevenfold and Papa Roach, while others were fans of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.

Since forming in 2014, their fanbase—called The Coffin Crew—has grown into a global community united through emotional healing in The Funeral Portrait’s music. Their fandom is inspired by groups like AFI’s Despair Faction, the MCRmy, the BVB Army, and Ice Nine Kills’ Psychos. It’s a welcoming and diverse community built around surviving pain and hardship.

Alternative Press once called them “an inspiring remedy for metalcore stagnation.” The band has appeared on SiriusXM Octane and on episodes of All Elite Wrestling. Known for their passionate live shows, they shine whether headlining or opening for big names like Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, and Skillet. They’ve also played major festivals such as Aftershock, Louder Than Life, So What?!, and Inkcarceration.

“There are so many lonely, hurting, and struggling people in underground fandoms—just as many as in mainstream hard rock,” said Jennings. “Our band is here to support the ‘weirdos’ and those who feel different. Because we’re weirdos too—we’re different too.”
