Bingkai Karya – As MALIQ & D’Essentials approach their 25th anniversary, the Indonesian band continues to embrace change, exploration, and new possibilities with “Arah Labuh,” their latest single, now available on all digital music platforms. The song marks the beginning of a new creative chapter, leading into an upcoming exhibition and album that will further explore the band’s journey and artistic evolution.
Written by Widi Puradiredja and Indah Wisnuwardhana alongside the band members, “Arah Labuh” reflects the courage to move forward without needing to know every answer from the start. At its heart is the belief that every step brings experiences and stories worth living, even when the destination remains uncertain.
Through imagery of distant stars, oceans, and places to anchor, the song encourages listeners to look beyond familiar horizons and remain open to new experiences. Its lyrics also acknowledge that doubt, mistakes, and moments of sadness are natural parts of the journey. Rather than dwelling on uncertainty, “Arah Labuh” offers a warm, grounded reminder that life does not have to unfold perfectly to be meaningful. Sometimes, all it takes is the courage to take the next step.
The message reflects MALIQ & D’Essentials’ own evolution. Nearly a quarter-century after beginning their journey, the band has continued to grow alongside generations of listeners, explore different musical expressions, and maintain the distinctive identity that has kept its work relevant.
“Arah Labuh” also serves as the gateway to the band’s upcoming exhibition and album, extending the story of the creative process, meaningful encounters, and exploration that define this next phase. The album is set to feature collaborations with Bilal Indrajaya, Perunggu, and Rhoma Irama, bringing together different generations and musical identities. These collaborations create space for broader artistic dialogue while demonstrating the band’s continued willingness to evolve without losing its character.
Musically, “Arah Labuh” retains the warm, organic sound associated with MALIQ & D’Essentials. Rich vocal harmonies, dynamic instrumentation, and flowing arrangements create an open, energetic atmosphere that complements the song’s message of possibility and forward movement.
Looking toward 2027, the single stands as a marker of transition rather than a reflection on the past. For MALIQ & D’Essentials, finding a place to anchor does not necessarily mean reaching the final destination. Sometimes, it means discovering the courage to set out again.
