In an era marked by growing climate concerns, iLitterless, in collaboration with local communities and businesses, made a remarkable push to engage Malang’s youth in climate disaster prevention during Green Consumer Day (GCD) 2023.
The theme for GCD 2023, “mumpung durung,” meaning “before it happens,” speaks directly to the urgency of addressing environmental issues. Recent events, including poor air quality in DKI Jakarta, landfill fires in Bandung, and landfill closures in Yogyakarta and Batu, have made the need for climate disaster mitigation painfully clear.
iLitterless centered their efforts on three pillars: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, as essential steps toward sustainability.

During GCD 2023, iLitterless organized hands-on activities, including recycling workshops where participants learned to create useful items from fabric waste. A waste deposit program encouraged responsible waste management, rewarding participants with vouchers from local cafes. Additionally, a panel discussion on the “mumpung durung” theme featured experts from various fields addressing climate mitigation.
The focus on engaging millennials and Generation Z acknowledges their role in shaping the future. By fostering awareness and activism, iLitterless is not just preparing for a better future but actively working towards it.
In Malang, iLitterless demonstrates the power of collective action, showing how grassroots initiatives can drive positive change. GCD 2023 in Malang exemplifies the importance of acting “mumpung durung” – before it’s too late.
