Bingkai Karya-for Revenge is back with their third single, “Semula.” After releasing “Sadrah” in March 2024 and “Penyangkalan” in July 2024. The lyrics, written by Boniex Noer, along with music contributions from Izha and Samuel TJ, continue to explore the “stages of grief.” While “Sadrah” was about a love lost and starting a new journey, and “Penyangkalan” focused on denial, “Semula” is about bargaining. The song reflects on regrets and “what if” scenarios.
Based on Boniex’s personal experiences, anyone who has gone through heartbreak can relate to this song. He explains that, instead of trying to heal, we often wish we could go back in time and stop the heartbreak from happening. Boniex says, “This song is about regretting why heartbreak happened, imagining if things could be different and the pain avoided. We want listeners to go back to the beginning,” Boniex said.
Same Style, 2000’s Emo
Even though this is their third single, for Revenge hasn’t changed their style much. Boniex says, “We kept our usual style but made the music sound more like early 2000s emo. We hope this brings something fresh for our listeners.” He describes the song as emotional, painful, and hypothetical. Reflecting on moments that can’t be changed.
“Semula” was completed in about a month. Boniex Noer (vocals), Arief Ismail (guitar), Izha Muhammad (bass), and Archims Pribadi (drums) all worked on it, adding electronic sounds to enhance the vibe. The biggest challenge was making sure the song expressed the “bargaining” phase of grief clearly. The music video will continue the story of characters Sera and Rana. They also appeared in the previous videos for “Sadrah” and “Penyangkalan.”
The band hopes “Semula” will be as successful as their previous singles. They also plan to release their fifth album and hope to go on tour and hold a solo concert to perform it live.
With “Semula,” for Revenge wants to remind people that the only way to heal from heartbreak is to accept each stage of the process instead of wishing to go back and change the past. “Going through it all makes us stronger,” Boniex concludes. The song is available on music platforms starting October 10, 2024.
