From Phonetics On and On to “Julie In Twos”, Horsegirl Keep the Momentum Strong

Bingkai KaryaHorsegirl has just released a brand new digital EP titled Julie In Twos and announced the upcoming 7” vinyl Two Julies, following the success of their widely acclaimed album Phonetics On and On.

Released via Matador Records and produced by Cate Le Bon, Phonetics On and On has quickly become one of the most celebrated albums of 2025, earning spots on mid year “Best Albums” lists from outlets such as Esquire, Stereogum, The Ringer, UPROXX, FLOOD, Paste, and Rolling Stone, which described it as “an instant contender for any great albums list.”

Since the album’s release, Horsegirl has been touring extensively, including their first ever tour in Japan, where every show was sold out. Among the standout tracks on the album is “Julie”, praised by The Ringer as “simple yet stunning.” Stereogum noted at its release: “A song this good proves that their debut was only the beginning.”

With today’s release, Horsegirl revisits “Julie” through the Julie In Twos digital EP, while also announcing the Two Julies 7” vinyl, now available for pre-order. The vinyl edition features two early demos of “Julie”, while the digital release also includes a demo of “In Twos.”

“Julie has been through a long journey with many early versions,” Horsegirl shares. “We wanted to release some of the raw recordings to show how a song can evolve during the recording process. It’s about falling in love and the uncertainty that comes with it, vulnerability shown differently in each version. The song was first written on acoustic guitar, an instrument that didn’t make it to the final recording. This evolution reflects the playful energy of working with Cate, while also showing our growth as songwriters during the making of Phonetics On and On.”
