Due to the 2 years of pandemic, many sectors collapsed and one of them is the tourism sector. The number of visitors decreased, with only 4,052 foreign visitors coming to Indonesia. Those numbers were lower and only 25% of the number of visitors in 2019.
Malang as one of tourism destinations in Indonesia is also included in a data of collapsed tourism sector. In 2019, 5 million local visitors came to Malang, but in 2020, the number decreased to 662 thousands. Owing to this problem, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy calls all travelers and tourism-sector workers to join the campaign of “Sport Tourism”.
It aims to bring tourism back after the pandemic. This campaign combines travel and sport. According to United Nations World Tourism (UNWTO), “Sport Tourism” is a tourism sector with the fastest growth because more tourists are attracted to sport activity.
As a response to the campaign, Gowesata collaborates with Gekraf Jawa Timur and Jatimpark Group conducts “Gowesata Bike Festival” . This cycling event presents 3 sub-events, namely BMX Gangster (Freestyle BMX), SKy Walker Balance Bike (Push Bike), and Gowesata Fun Racing (Urban MTB).
The event will be held for 3 days, starting from BMX Gangster on July 23, 2022 in Gangster Town Museum Angkut, then followed by Sky Walker Balance Bike on July 24, 2022 in Runway 27 Museum Angkut, and ends with Gowesata Fun Racing on July 31, 2022 in Dino Park Jatimpark 3.
“Gowesata Bike Festival” is open for everyone who are interested in various types of Bicycle. Gowesata targeted 150 participants for Freestyle BMX, 300 participants for Push Bike, and 300 participants for Urban MTB. Not only cycling and traveling, participants also may compete in every sub-events held: 2 categories in Freestyle BMX (BMX Street Open and BMX Beginner), 11 categories in Push Bike, and 9 categories in Urban MTB.
