Grand Mercure Malang Mirama Participated in Gerakan Nasional Laut Bersih at Sendang Biru Beach

Gerakan Nasional Laut Bersih (National Sea Cleaning Action) for the 77th Indonesian National Navy Anniversary was held on September 7th, 2022, took place in Sendang Biru Beach, Tambakrejo, Sumbermanjing Wetan, Malang. The action was held in 77 location points throughout the coast of Indonesia, which was carried out on a Video Conference basis and centered at Tanjung Priok Port. 

Grand Mercure Malang Mirama actively participated in this event virtually, starting from the opening, Video Conference (vicon) with 7 Regional Command Units (SATKOWIL) & Non-Regional Command Units (SATNONKOWIL) inspection of sea cleaning action, delivery of contact materials to MURI record certificate & door stop. In addition, non-virtual activities were also held together with cleaning the sea along Sendang Biru Beach by picking up trash, especially plastic.

The Commander of Malang Danlanal, Marine Colonel Dewi Lestari, revealed that this program aimed to increase public awareness, particularly waste handling occurring on the coast and sea. Besides, she added that this activity can also educate the participants about processing waste, especially to protect and preserve nature on the beach.

“It certainly also requires cooperation from all levels of society to maintain a balanced and sustainable ecosystem,” said Dewi Lestari.

On the other hand, the handling of existing waste was also focused on the 5R (Reform, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) starting from repairing the place we live, refusing to use goods potentially waste, reduce the use of a waste production item, reuse materials that can still be used, and recycle used items.

Met on the coast of Sendang Biru Beach, Sugito Adhi as General Manager of Grand Mercure Malang Mirama was very enthusiastic to be able to collaborate with several related parties in the 2022 Gerakan Nasional Laut Bersih, from state agencies to the private sector and all elements of society who were also involved in this activities.

“Obviously, the focus is No Single-Use Plastic, which is a strict ban on littering ranging from plastic bags, plastic straws and bottles plastic in which this has an impact on the sea ecosystem if they consume the garbage,” said Sugito Adhi.

Sugito Adhi also explained that after the Gerakan Nasional Laut Bersih event, several representative teams from Grand Mercure Malang Mirama and the Navy went to Kampung Bahari Nusantara doing a survey in some places for future projects (especially in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)), starting from Posyandu (Integrated Services Post) community, Rumah Pintar to Mangrove Forests which are all located on the coast of the Tamban Beach area.
