Hindia Finds Light Among the Ruins on “Lagipula Hidup akan Berakhir” (Bagian II)

Lagipula Hidup akan Berakhir (Bagian II) (Life Will End Anyway (Part II)) follows Bagian I (Part I) was released on July 7, and in the process completes this epic body of work by Hindia, the Jakarta-based musician and songwriter. This sequel was released by Sun Eater to digital music platforms on July 21, 2023.

The album will also be published on a double CD with all 28 tracks, and Hindia will perform a series of special “Lagipula Hidup akan Berakhir” performances in Surabaya on August 13, Semarang on August 20, Bandung on August 23, and Jakarta on September 30.

While Bagian I included darker songs about death and sorrow at the state of the world, the 14 tracks on Bagian II, while not exactly gushing with optimism, do provide solutions to cope no matter how awful life gets.

Baskara Putra a.k.a. Hindia tries to be wiser in social media in “Lupa Kata Sandi”, a serene duet with Nadin Amizah; grapples with self-awareness over his appearance in “Perkara Tubuh”.

His journey continues as she apologizes to her niece and her generation for the burden of neglecting her elders in “Alexandra”, and celebrates love in the face of obstacles in “Imagine If We Don’t Give Up” until she finally dares to break free from the grip of a dead-end job in “Berdansalah, This Career is Meaningless”.

Enrico Octaviano is the album’s main producer, assisted by Kareem Soenharjo who produced two tracks. Apart from Nadin Amizah, the album also features some well-known collaborators such as Teddy Adhitya and Rendy Pandugo for the song “Jangan Jadi Pahlawan”.

There’s also Rayhan Noor and Petra Sihombing, who play guitar on “Kita ke Sana” and “Berdansalah, Karir ini tak ada meaning” respectively; and Kamga, who plays a big role in the vocal department, both as a backing singer and vocal director.

It would also be foolish not to mention Iyas Lawrence and Kristo Immanuel’s scripted back-and-forth on “Wawancara Liar Pt. III” (“Wild Interview Pt. III”) and “Wawancara Liar Pt. IV” (“Wild Interview Pt. IV”). If there is a message to be taken from Bagian II, Hindia believes it is, “There is always a way to laugh things off.” When you’re in a bad circumstance, you don’t have to be sad all of the time. It’s only a matter of perspective.”

With the release of Lagipula Hidup akan Berakhir in its entirety, Hindia’s mission to share everything that’s been bothering him for the past few years comes to an end. “A weight has been lifted from my neck and shoulders,” he explains. “I’m hoping that by writing this many songs, I won’t need to write another album.”

Is this to imply that there will be no third Hindia album? “We’ll see,” he replies. “Problems never go away. But for the time being, I just want to enjoy this relief.” So let us dance and have fun. With Hindia, “Lagipula Hidup akan Berakhir”
