Indonesia to Launch Golden Visa for Economic Growth

Indonesia will issue golden visa for investors. The matter is confirmed by The Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia. This is the government’s move to make investors stay longer in Indonesia. Golden visa is a special facility for investors who want to invest in Indonesia to get a residence permit for several years.

A golden visa works by a residence-by-investment scheme that allows individuals to obtain a residence permit in a country by purchasing property, making investments, or large donations. The scheme provides opportunities for applicants who meet the requirements, such as being over 18 years old, having a clean criminal record, and having sufficient funds to make the necessary investments.

Bahlil Lahadalia explained that the visa is not only for investors, but also for people with specialized skills and a retiree with high income. He also said that the rules related to golden visas are currently being finalized. Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly will later issue a Government Regulation (PP) regarding this matter.

The government is also taking the necessary precautions to ensure the smooth operation for this policy. As stated by Nasir Jamil, member of Commission III DPR, “This (policy) indeed makes it easier for people to come to Indonesia. However, it needs to be accompanied with strict observations.” Another member of commission III DPR, Taufik Basari seems to agree by saying that they welcome the policy and ask that its progress continues to be conveyed, including whether it is able to achieve the objectives and targets of the golden visa, namely getting investment.

In addition to preparing a “red carpet” for foreigners, the government is also preparing a policy to reduce air transportation costs, especially to eastern Indonesia. This air transportation cost, according to Sandiaga Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, is allegedly contributing significant inflation in eastern Indonesia. Therefore, in a closed meeting held after a meeting related to golden visas, a policy to reduce air transportation costs was discussed.
