Indonesian Diaspora in Istanbul Plays Crucial Role in Successful 2024 Election

Bingkai Karya – The Indonesian community in Istanbul and its surrounding areas demonstrated their civic engagement by playing a pivotal role in the success of the 2024 Indonesian election. On February 11th, 2024, the Conrad Bosphorus Hotel in Istanbul buzzed with activity as Indonesian citizens residing in Turkey exercised their right to vote.

Voters at the polling station emphasized the importance of adhering to the fundamental principles of LUBER JURDIL: direct, general, free, secret, honest, and fair elections. This year, the Indonesian diaspora had the opportunity to vote for the President and Vice President, as well as representatives in the Regional Representative Council.

The Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in Istanbul, in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General, meticulously oversaw the entire election process. PPLN Istanbul implemented three voting methods: the TPS (polling station) method, the KSK (village-level committee) method, and the Pos (mail-in) method. These methods ensured that all 3,157 eligible voters on the Permanent Voter List (DPT) in Istanbul had the opportunity to cast their ballots.

The enthusiasm was palpable, with a remarkable 1,059 voters participating in the Istanbul TPS alone. Aldi Subakti, Chairperson of PPLN Istanbul, expressed his gratitude to the entire Indonesian community in the Marmara region for their active participation. He highlighted the peaceful and interference-free election process facilitated by the high voter turnout.

The successful participation of the Indonesian diaspora in Istanbul showcases the dedication and civic responsibility of Indonesians residing abroad. Their contribution to the 2024 election serves as an inspiration for future elections, demonstrating the importance of ensuring accessible and inclusive voting processes for all Indonesians, regardless of their location.
