Bingkai Karya – The year 2026 marks a special milestone for Indonesian music. The group RAN (Rayi, Asta, and Nino) has officially reached its twentieth anniversary. Two decades without any lineup changes, without ever stopping their creative output, and without losing their place in the hearts of listeners, an achievement that very few music groups in the country can claim.
And they celebrate it in the boldest yet most personal way: by bringing the song that started it all onto a theater stage.
The musical “Pandangan Pertama” by RAN was successfully staged on April 18, 2026, at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki. In collaboration with Jakarta Movin and Seraya Live, the production was not merely a nostalgic concert, but a full theatrical work that reimagined “Pandangan Pertama” in an entirely new form, blending acting, dramatization, and music into a cohesive narrative.
The audience didn’t just sing along to a song that has lived with them for years, they were drawn into a story. The musical follows Asti and Randi, two radio hosts who tell love stories every day, yet fail to understand their own feelings. Amid ambition, complications, and the presence of another figure offering certainty, RAN appears not as background music, but as the inner voice guiding every step, just as they have always done through their music.
For RAN, the musical “Pandangan Pertama” was more than just a performance. It was a full circle moment, returning to the beginning, to the song that meant everything. “Pandangan Pertama” is not just their first song; it is the foundation upon which their entire career was built.
“We never imagined ‘Pandangan Pertama’ would go this far. From a competition 20 years ago to transforming into a full musical, it feels like a dream that keeps growing,” said Rayi Putra.
“This isn’t just about a song. It’s about everyone who has been part of this journey with us,” added Nino Kayam.
Meanwhile, Asta Andoko, often the calmest voice among the three, admitted that the night felt different from any performance they had ever done. “There was a moment during the show when I stood at the side of the stage and couldn’t say anything. Twenty years felt incredibly real that night.”
A brief look at their story: RAN was born from the friendship of three high school friends who believed music could be more than just a hobby. They created “Pandangan Pertama” and brought it to the Indonesian Song Festival on JakTV in 2006, finishing as runner up, and with it, a song that opened every door. It became the foundation of their debut album ‘For Your Life’, which captured the hearts of Indonesia. Since then, RAN’s songs have been present in nearly every important moment of our lives, from morning commutes to long-forgotten iPod playlist. RAN didn’t just grow as a band, they grew with us, becoming a kind of lifelong companion that never left.
And like any good companion, they always have a surprise.
Following the success of the musical, RAN officially announced a re-release of the music video for “Pandangan Pertama” a tribute to the song that started it all, now presented with a new face. It is their way of inviting all of us to return to the same point: the beginning, the first moment, the first glance that changed everything.
As the closing chapter of this milestone year, RAN is also preparing for their 20th Anniversary Concert at the end of 2026, a celebration that promises to be more than just a music performance. Twenty years on, RAN is no longer just about music, but about friendship, dreams, and the decision to keep moving forward together.
“Twenty years is not the finish line. For us, this is just the next chapter, and we want to keep running, together with all of you,” Nino concluded.
