KARIN Trapped in Manipulative Relationship in “Wanita Gila”

KARIN (Boni Eko, Damez Nababan, and Felix Kurnia) have come together to invigorate the pop-punk music scene in Indonesia through their debut single titled ‘Wanita Gila’ (Crazy Woman). In their somewhat extreme endeavor, this title was chosen to depict the essence they are pursuing. Through this song, they aim to convey that manipulative actions in relationships are not exclusive to women, but men can also experience them from manipulative women.

‘Wanita Gila’ portrays a story of a man who feels trapped in a relationship with a manipulative woman, causing discomfort and pressure. Boni Eko plays a significant role in this project as a composer, executive producer, and producer, alongside Rinaldy Vidianza, who assists in the mixing and mastering process. The recording process took place in two cities, Bandung and Jakarta, spanning around a month, as detailed by Damez and Felix.

The band name “KARIN” is an acronym for “KAWAN SEDARI KEMARIN,” reflecting the spirit of collaboration among long-time friends aiming to create music they love. The choice of the pop-punk genre is not without reason; it allows this trio to freely express their stories through lyrics and music.

Through ‘Wanita Gila’, KARIN hopes to introduce a new color to the pop-punk genre in Indonesia. The story they convey through the song is expected to resonate with many, given that such situations are likely experienced by others as well, simultaneously depicting the dynamics of life and emotions in the social circles of young adults in Jakarta. They invite listeners to experience KARIN’s breakthrough by listening to their debut single on various digital music streaming platforms in Indonesia.
